MIAMI, Fla. – The Wildcats dropped their first midweek contest of the 2023 season as they fell to FIU, 12-2, Tuesday night in Miami.
How It Happened
FIU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a three-run homer to left center. They added four more in the second on a pair of RBI singles after loading the bases.
Jeremy Garcia got B-CU on the board in the bottom of the second, singling home
Jorge Braceras.
Jason Hodges added another run for the Wildcats an inning later, with an RBI single that scored
Hylan Hall, but that would be it for B-CU.
The Panthers added three unearned runs in the fifth after a Wildcats fielding error. Runs in the sixth and seventh finished off FIU's 12-2 win.
Santiago Gomez took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing six earned runs on five hits with a walk in 1.1 innings pitched.

Yoansell Diaz,
Marcos Gamboa, and
Gerald Bess each made their first appearances of the season for B-CU out of the pen. They combined to strike out 10.

The Wildcats will get back to work this weekend as they face a four-game series against Purdue Fort Wayne. The first game of the series is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday and a 1 p.m. contest Sunday.
