COLUMBIA, Fla. – No. 20 South Carolina gave B-CU all it could handle in a 20-3 run-rule decision, Friday night in Columbia, SC.
South Carolina (14-1, 0-0 SEC) struck first in the contest, as a groundout scored a runner from third in the bottom of the second to make it 1-0.
The Wildcats (8-6) took the lead a frame later, as
Luis Tuero singled to center field, scoring
Irvin Escobar.
Jeremy Garcia came around to score a batter later on a wild pitch that made it 2-1, B-CU.
The Gamecocks took two more in the bottom of the third on back-to-back solo homers, and South Carolina took it from there.
In the fourth, the Gamecocks batted around, plating nine runs.
The Wildcats scored their final run of the game in the sixth as
Hylan Hall connected on a ball to deep left center, his first homer of the season.
South Carolina bats exploded again in the sixth, tacking on eight runs. The two teams finished out the seventh inning, and the game was called.
Louis Lipthratt took the loss.
Derrius York and
Gerald Bess combined to finish out the rest of the game for B-CU.
Sunday's contest has be banged in anticipation of weather. Instead, the Wildcats and Gamecocks will play a doubleheader Saturday, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
