DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second time in as many days, the Wildcats erased a deficit to down Mississippi Valley State, this time by a final score of 12-8, Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark
How It Happened
The Delta Devils (7-16, 0-6 SWAC) opened the scoring early with a trio of hits including a ground-rule double.
Bethune-Cookman (14-10, 5-1 SWAC) tied things up as
Robert Moya cranked a solo home run off the roof of the batting cage in left field.
The Delta Devils added a pair of runs in the fourth on an RBI double and a bases-loaded walk that made it 3-1.
The Wildcats re-took the lead at 4-3 in the sixth after plating three runs on an RB single by
Irvin Escobar and a sacrifice fly by
Brian Perez.
MVSU continued their attack in the seventh with four runs on a solo homer and a pair of RBI singles. They added one more to make it 8-4 with an RBI double in the eighth.
From there, it was all Wildcats. Moya opened the bottom of the eighth with a single, followed by an Escobar walk, resulting in an MVSU pitching change. A passed ball moved the runners up a base to second and third before
Brian Perez walked to load the bases.
Malik Stephens walked with the bases jammed, scoring Moya. Louis Tuero followed with a single to left that scored a pair and made it 8-7, MVSU.
After another Delta Devils' pitching changes,
Garrett Chun singled to score Stephens and tie the game at eight all.
Hylan Hall was hit by a pitch to load the bases yet again before a Boris Peña walk gave B-CU a 9-8 lead. Moya followed up with a wild fielders' choice that scored two, and Escobar followed with a stand-up triple to cap the rally at 12-8, B-CU.
The Wildcats starter
Louis Lipthratt took a no-decision after 3.2 innings in which he allowed three earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
