DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman Baseball received national recognition Monday, receiving Top-25 votes in this week's NCBWA DI Baseball rankings.
Head coach Johnathan Hernandez's program receives its first Top-25 votes since 2017, when the Wildcats finished ranked 30 in the nation according to the end-of-season poll.Â
"It's a credit to what we're continuing to build here at Bethune-Cookman," Hernandez said. "Our guys have worked hard all season, and we're going to continue to build as we head towards the SWAC tournament. I'm excited to see what this team is capable as we finish the regular season strong."
The Wildcats sit atop the SWAC at 11-2, and 20-14 overall after a sweep of Mississippi Valley State this weekend. B-CU holds a pair of games in hand due to weather cancelations in Huntsville earlier this month. The Wildcats have yet to lose a SWAC series this season.Â
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. The 2023 NCBWA poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.Â
The Wildcats hit the field again tonight as they take on Miami at 6 p.m. in Coral Gables.
