MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Wildcats dropped the series-opener to Alabama State, 14-4, Friday night in Montgomery, Ala.
The Wildcats (20-16, 11-3 SWAC) opened the scoring in the top of the first as
Hylan Hall reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a Boris Pena double, an scored on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 lead.
Alabama State (25-14 12-3 SWAC) umped in front in the second with a two-run homer and RBI single that made it 3-1, ASU.
The Hornets added two runs runs in the third and the fourth to push the lead to 7-1. An RBI double in the fifth pushed the Alabama State lead to 8-1.
Robert Moya breathed life into the Wildcats in the sixth, bringing in Hall and
Garrett Chun on a three-run blast to right center to cut the deficit to 8-4.
Alabama State shut the door in the bottom of the eight, putting up six runs on a pair of homers and an RBI double that ended things at 14-4.
Nolan Santos made the start for B-CU. In five innings, he allowed eight runs on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
Yoansell Diaz and
Gabriel Perez also chipped in out of the bullpen.

The Wildcats will look to even up the series beginning tomorrow at 7 p.m. EST.
