Wildcats Outlast Jackson State in Extras

JACKSON, Miss. – It took 13 innings, but the Wildcats salvaged a blown lead in the ninth to take game one from Jackson State, Friday night at Braddy Field. 

Header How it Happened

The Wildcats (21-18, 12-5 SWAC) opened the scoring in the second as Robery Moya came around to score when ball four to Garrett Chun sailed to the backstop.

B-CU added two more an inning later as Boris Pena single to left field, scoring Jason Hodges and Luis Tuero to make it 3-0.

Jackson State (21-18 6-13 SWAC) plated two in the third on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly that made it 3-2.

B-CU added two more the next frame as Jeremy Garcia singled to score Chun and Jorge Braceras.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth made it 5-3 as Jackosn State added a run.

The back-and-forth continued into the sixth, as Moya scored on a Garcia double play ball for another B-CU insurance run.

Jackson State pulled within striking distance again in the seventh, scoring a pair on a B-CU error and wild pitch to make it 6-5.

Garcia added another Wildcat run in the eight, scoring Chun on a fielder's choice to push the lead to 7-5.

Jackson State pushed the game to extras after a pair of runs in the ninth made it 7-7. 

The Wildcats loaded the bases in the tenth, but were unable to score. 

Moya and Irvin Escobar would be the difference for the Wildcats, both singling through the right side of the infield to give the Wildcats the 9-7 lead and the win.

Nolan Santos made the start for B-CU.  He allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts over seven innings.

Joan Gonzalez took the win, his fifth of the season. He allowed only two earned runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts in six strong innings of work.
