DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wildcats wrapped up the 2023 regular season with a 9-4 loss at the hands of Jackson State, Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Wildcats (29-24, 20-8 SWAC) honored six graduating seniors before the game:
Alec Mendez,
Derrius York,
Malik Stephens,
Brian Perez,
Louis Lipthratt, and
Gerald Bess.

Jackson State (28-23, 13-17 SWAC) scored first in the top of the first inning on an RBI single.
For the second time in the series, the Wildcats battled back with a three-run first inning courtesty of a three-run, bases-clearing double for
Manny Souffrain.
The Tigers took a run back in the third, taking advantage of a B-CU error with an RBI single to make it 3-2.
JSU plated two runs in the fifth and the sixth, again capitalizing on what would be five B-CU errors to make it 6-3, Tigers.
The Wildcat drove in one final run in the seventh as
Luis Tuero singled in
Malik Stephens to make it 6-4.
Jackson State continued to put pressure on the B-CU defense, scoring three more in the eighth for the 9-4 victory.Â
Marcos Gamboa made the start. He tossed three innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Santiago Gomez was saddled with the loss.

Joan Gonzalez worked out of the bullpen for the Cats.

The Wildcats are Atlanta-Bound after officially securing the No. 2 seed in the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference's East Division this weekend, They are locked in for a noon first pitch against the West's No. 3 seed, Southern, on Wednesday, May 24 at Russ Chandler Stadium on the campus of Georgia Tech.Â
