DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Women's Golf Head Coach Harry Stokes announced the signing of Katie Robinson from the transfer portal on Monday, July 31, as she becomes the third golfer to sign for Bethune-Cookman prior to the 2023-24 season.
Robinson, a rising junior from American Canyon, California, arrives to Bethune-Cookman from fellow Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) institution Alabama State, where she spent the previous two seasons with the Hornets program under Head Coach Quincy Heard.
"I'm very excited to bring in Katie [Robinson] to the Wildcats Family," said Stokes, now entering his second full season at the helm of the B-CU program. "She's very experienced with a great work ethic, and I'm super excited for everything that she brings to the program."
During the 2022-23 season at ASU, Robinson won low medalist accolades at the Women in Golf Foundation Collegiate Championship, allowing her to earn entry into the Ladies Professional Golf Association PAT in the process.
As a freshman, the American Canyon High alum turned in a third-place finish at the 2022 SWAC Women's Golf Championship in Flowood, Mississippi, carding a three-round 236 (84-72-80). Her second round even-par 72 was tops among all participants in the field.
"[Katie] Robinson is familiar with the league, and that's a true bonus for us," continued Stokes. "She is also familiar with some of the courses that we'll play this season. However, it is the way she adjusts to course conditions and stays calm under pressure that impresses me the most about her. It is just her mentality and passion for the game that align perfectly with what we are trying to grow for this program and more."
Not only was Robinson a stellar performer with the Hornets of Alabama State, but she was a highly recruited golfer coming out of high school.
For the Wolves at American Canyon High, Robinson was tabbed a finalist for the
Times-Herald Female Athlete of the Year award as a junior during the 2019-20 campaign. That same season, she won two events on either side of the country in junior tournaments, while also touting individual medalist honors at the Vine Valley Athletic League Tournament in which she fired a 72.
She also took home top honors at the 32-player Spring Creek Junior Championship, respectfully.
"I can't tell you how excited I am about this upcoming season," said Stokes. "With the additions we've made during the offseason and the players that we have coming back – it's going to be a lot of fun coaching this group."
