GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
De'Quon King led the men's side, while
Indya Campbell paced the women's squad for Bethune-Cookman Cross Country as the Wildcats participated in the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at Mark Bostick Golf Course on Friday morning.
In the men's event, Bethune-Cookman finished 15th (490 pts) in the 7,800 Meter Run course. Meanwhile, the BCU women's cross country side ran the three-mile course with a 14th place (444 pts) showing for the event.
De'Quon King, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida, was the top performer for Bethune-Cookman Men's Cross Country, with the Raines High alum crossing the finish line in a time of 31:08.0.
BCU had its next three runners cross in order for, respectively, with sophomore Ja'Quan King tallying a total time of 33:04.8.
Isaiah Davis (34:42.8) and
Damaris Robinson (34:47.7) went back-to-back for the Cats across the line. And it would be the tandem of
Jonathan Gaines (37:40.4) and
Christian Taylor (39:22.0) rounding out the BCU runners going back-to-back in the scoring as well.
North Florida (30 pts) took the team title for the men's event, as unattached runner Aidan Ogorman served as the top individual performer on the day, although being a student-athlete from North Florida. Following the Ospreys in the team standings were Georgia Tech (40 pts) and Florida (117) as the top three schools.
On the women's side, junior
Indya Campbell topped the scoring for the Maroon and Gold, using a finishing mark of 21:53.4 in her race.
Valencia Butler, a sophomore from Augusta, Georgia, crossed as the second-lowest scorer for the Cats, as she produced a time of 22:11.7.
Nyidjah Ives turned in a time of 23:33.0, followed by the duo of
Caliyah Gee (30:23.3) and
Jordan Singletary (30:23.6) crossing one after the other, respectfully.
The host Florida Gators finished atop the women's standings with 38 points, followed closely by Vanderbilt (42 pts) and Georgia Tech (62 pts) to round out the top three schools. The Gators' Allison Wilson was the top individual performer for the women's event, registering a time of 16:38.7 on the day.
Bethune-Cookman Cross Country will next compete in the Florida State Cross Country Invite on Saturday, Sept. 29, in Tallahassee, Florida. Race time is set to begin at 7:40 a.m. for the men, and immediately followed by the women's event.
