Volleyball Falls to Campbell

Three Cats finish with four kills each

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman finished up play in the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina on Saturday morning, with the Wildcats falling by a 3-0 decision to Campbell inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. BCU dropped the match on scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-11.
 
Campbell (1-5) secured its first win of the season with the Camels hitting .494 as a team on the day.
 
Counter to that, Bethune-Cookman (0-6) was limited to just .094 hitting as a unit, amassing 24 kills and 16 errors on 85 swings.
 
The Camels picked up their best hitting performance in the decisive third set, using 19 kills on 26 swings against a single error. Gwen Wolkow topped the Camels in that set with six kills, followed by Abbie Tuyo with four.
 
For BCU, it was Jasmine Moore providing the offense in the second set, as she put down three kills in the frame.
 
Campbell was led on the day by three (3) players with double-digit kills, headed up by Tuyo and Wolkow with 12 kills each. Chloe Cook added 11 kills. Setter Maddie Converse provided a match-high 46 assists, while Claranne Fechter registered 16 digs.
 
The Cats were paced by the play of Malina Spencer with five kills and two assisted blocks. Jasmine Moore, Ktyal Price and AJ Simmons provided four kills each for the Maroon and Gold. Rylee Davis had a team-high 11 digs. Alisha Callender recorded 12 assists from her setter position.
 
Bethune-Cookman is back in action next weekend when the Wildcats travel to the FAU Invitational hosted by the Florida Atlantic Owls in Boca Raton. The action begins with BCU facing Youngstown State and Incarnate Word on Friday, Sept. 8.
