Wildcats Stumble in Huntsville

B-CU drops to 0-6 on the season

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Bethune-Cookman drops to 0-6 on the year as the Wildcats suffered a 56-12 loss at Alabama A&M, Saturday afternoon at Louis Crews Stadium.

Header How it Happened

After spending the week on the road due to avoid the potential impact of Hurricane Milton, the Wildcats arrived in Huntsville Friday morning after practicing at Georgia Tech in Atlanta from Tuesday to Thursday.

Alabama A&M (3-3, 1-1 SWAC) won the kick and elected to receive, quickly putting seven on the board on the game's opening drive thanks to a 40-yard pass that set the Bulldogs up on the two for the Xavier Lankford rushing score.

The B-CU (0-6, 0-2 SWAC) offense started slow, managing only 12 plays over two drives ending in a punt to start the game.

The Bulldogs jumped up 14-0 with another touchdown taking the ball 94 yards on 13 plays capped off by another short Lankford rushing score.

The Wildcat attack finally broke through midway through the second quarter as chunk plays to Javon Ross and Marcus Velez set up quarterback Cam'Ron Ransom for a 15-yard rushing score. The Bulldogs blocked the PAT, nearly returning it for a two-point safety, but they were stopped short as B-CU pulled to within 14-6.

The Bulldogs proceeded to score on eight consecutive drives, including seven touchdowns and a field goal.

The Wildcats got a shot of momentum with a Johnny Harris pick six, as the junior returned an errant Lankford pass 91-yards for the score that made it 35-12 after another missed extra point.

The Bulldogs onslaught continued from there, and the Wildcats could not answer as Alabama A&M poured on 56 points in the win.

Notes & Stats In-Story Header

CAM CAN DO IT
Quarterback Cam'Ron Ransom ran in from 15 yards out in the second quarter, scoring his team-leading fifth touchdown on the ground
this season. Overall, he has been a part of eight touchdowns on the season – four rushing and four passing.

PALMER ON THE GROUND
Dennis Palmer rushed for a team-high 35 yards, the second time this season he has led the Cats in rushing.

WORKPLACE HARRIS-MENT
Johnny Harris III had three pass breakups including a 91-yard interception return for touchdown, the first of his career, to register a
career day in that department. He finished the game with two tackles (one solo) as well.

THE ROAD IS WHERE THE HARD IS
Dating back to a 27-13 victory over North Carolina Central in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Oct. 10, 2019, Bethune-
Cookman has won just one (1) true conference road game – including the end of the MEAC era in 2019 and through the current stint as
members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), that being a 45-35 decision away to Mississippi Valley State on Oct. 22,
2022. In that period, B-CU has dropped 14 of its last 15 conference road games.

TOUGH FOR THE DEFENSE TO STOP
With 701 yards accumulated by Alabama A&M on the day, all but one opponent offensively (Alabama State) has reached 400 yards or
more against the Wildcats this season.

MICAH'S RETURN
Micah Bowens returned at quarterback for the first action he's seen under center since the season-opener at South Florida.

A CONFERENCE HEARTACHE
The 56-12 setback on the day is the worst conference loss of any kind for Bethune-Cookman since suffering a 63-14 setback to in-state
foe Florida A&M in the Walt Disney World Florida Classic in 1999.
