Revised Schedule Keeps Wildcats in Tallahassee

B-CU plays Alcorn State and Southern in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The aftermath of Hurricane Milton has forced a change to location for a pair of Bethune-Cookman volleyball matches with the Wildcats now hosting this weekend's contests at the Al Lawson Center on the campus of Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Florida. The Wildcats will play Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alcorn State on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m., followed by a quick turnaround against Southern University on Monday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m.

BCU VS. ALCORN STATE SERIES
▪ Bethune-Cookman is 4-0 all-time against Alcorn State.
▪ The first meeting was a 3-1 B-CU win back in 2005, at Troy, Alabama.
▪ B-CU swept last year's meeting as part of the SWAC Round-Up in Daytona Beach.
 
SCOUTING THE BRAVES
▪ Alcorn State enters Sunday's contest 1-13 overall and holding an 0-5 record in SWAC play.
▪ Setter Ramona Pulu leads the team in kills (59) and assists (118) on the campaign.
▪ Newcomer Sydney Valentine is second on the team in kills with 52 under her belt.
▪ The Braves look towards Harmoni Carswell to lead the line with 139 digs.
▪ Jalayah Hamby is the leader in blocks (23).
 
BCU VS. SOUTHERN (La.) SERIES
▪ In a short series that dates back to 1998, Bethune-Cookman holds a 3-2 lead against the Jaguars.
▪ B-CU has won the last three in the series since joining the SWAC, including a 3-2 win in the SWAC Round-Up last season in Houston, Texas.
▪ The Cats won a 3-0 match back on Oct. 9, 2022, in Montgomery, Alabama.
▪ Since joining the SWAC, the Cats are 3-0 against the Jaguars.
 
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
▪ The Jaguars arrive to the "Sunshine State" with a 5-14 overall mark and sporting a 3-2 record in league play.
▪ The Jaguars have won their last here SWAC matches against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Grambling State and Alcorn State, respectfully.
▪ Kills for the Jaguars are supplied by three different players eclipsing 100 on the season in that area – Tamara Chavez (123), Jordan Felix (116), Alicia Hearn (109).
▪ The Jags use two setters with the primary being Felix and leading the bunch with 267 assists, followed by MiaBella English with 177.
▪ The leader in digs for Southern is Najeh Harris (219), while the blocks leader is Alicia Hearn with 62.
