Bethune-Cookman dropped to 0-6 on the year as the Wildcats suffered a 56-12 loss at Alabama A&M, Saturday afternoon at Louis Crews Stadium.
After spending the week on the road due to avoid the potential impact of Hurricane Milton, the Wildcats arrived in Huntsville Friday morning after practicing at Georgia Tech in Atlanta from Tuesday to Thursday.
Alabama A&M won the kick and elected to receive, quickly putting seven on the board on the game's opening drive thanks to a 40-yard pass that set the Bulldogs up on the two for the Xavier Lankford rushing score.
The B-CU offense started slow, managing only 12 plays over two drives ending in a punt to start the game.
The Bulldogs jumped up 14-0 with another touchdown taking the ball 94 yards on 13 plays capped off by another short Lankford rushing score.
The Wildcat attack finally broke through midway through the second quarter as chunk plays to
Javon Ross and
Marcus Velez set up quarterback
Cam'Ron Ransom for a 15-yard rushing score. The Bulldogs blocked the PAT, nearly returning it for a two-point safety, but they were stopped short as B-CU pulled to within 14-6.
The Bulldogs proceeded to score on eight consecutive drives, including seven touchdowns and a field goal.
The Wildcats got a shot of momentum with a Johnny Harris pick six, as the junior returned an errant Lankford pass 91 yards for the score that made it 35-12 after another missed extra point.
The Bulldogs onslaught continued from there, and the Wildcats could not answer as Alabama A&M poured on 56 points in the win.
Mississippi Valley State enters play this weekend as the only other winless SWAC team at 0-6 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. The Delta Devils suffered back-to-back losses against Alcorn State and at Alabama State with a bye week in between.
The Delta Devils rank last in the conference in both total offense and total defense. MVSU averages 13.5 points per game and allows 48.3. They field the SWAC's worst rushing offense at only 58 yards per game on the ground. The passing game has fared a bit better, as they pass for 172 yards per game, the eighth-best mark in the conference.
Two quarterbacks have appeared in every game for MVSU. Sophomore Ty'Jarian Williams leads the Delta Devils with four passing touchdowns on a 50% completion percentage with eight interceptions. He is also the team's leading rusher, rushing for 104 yards on 69 attempts for two scores. His teammate, sophomore Jaydyn Sisk has one more passing yard at 429 on a 46 percent completion percentage with six picks. He has run the ball only 15 times for 39 yards.
