Hobbs Takes Fourth at Rocket Classic

Wildcats finish eighth in Ohio

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Ashlie Hobbs took fourth place for Bethune-Cookman Women's Golf as the Wildcats finished eighth at the fourth annual Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo at Catawba Island Club. The two-day, 54-hole event took place Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, in Port Clinton, Ohio.
 
Ashlie Hobbs (78-72-74=224, +8) fired a second round even-par 72 during the final round of Monday's two-round opener. She ended up fourth overall in the field of 59 on the final player leaderboard with a final round two-over 74 on Tuesday.
 
Katie Robinson (76-84-75=235, +19), the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) individual champion, tied for 30th in the field, after lowering her second-round score by nine strokes. Skylar Kew (82-81-85=248, +32) fired a second round 81 to finish tied for 43rd.
 
Kamary Leaf (84-84-91=259, +43) began the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 84 to place 52nd. And it was sophomore Meeya Marquez (89-94-86=269, +53) finishing 57th after firing her best round during Tuesday's final 18 holes with an 86.
 
Playing in her first-ever event after transferring from Edward Waters, Leiahnni Smith (107-104-103) served as an individual in the tournament, and was able to lower her scores each round to finish 58th in what was her first tournament in more than a year. Jordan Davis (118-113-111), a junior from St. Petersburg, Florida, also lowered her scores each round, including saving her best for Tuesday's final 18 holes with a 111.
 
As a team, Bethune-Cookman (320-321-320=961) finished eighth in the field of 10 teams, lowered its team scoring by 58 strokes from last year's appearance in the Rocket Classic.
 
Ohio won the team trophy with a 906 collective score, followed by Akron (909) and the host Toledo Rockets (910). The individual medalist was Ohio's Mackenzie McRee (76-72-73), as Central Michigan's Ella Zanatta (72-75-75) and Toledo's Valeria Ojeda (72-76-75) were second and third, respectfully.
 
The Wildcats will have two weeks off before its next event – the Crusader Invitational presented by Cove Risk in Worcester, Massachusetts, taking place October 22-23.
