Rivals Collide in Midweek Matchup

Cats travel to Tallahassee for FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Despite the oncoming threat of Hurricane Milton, Bethune-Cookman Volleyball travels to Tallahassee, Florida, this week for a midweek Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) meeting with in-state foe Florida A&M on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m.

NEWS & NOTES
â–ª Bethune-Cookman has won three of its first four SWAC matches of the season, while owning a 6-10 overall mark.
â–ª The Wildcats won their first five-set match of the season last weekend with a decision over SWAC opponent Alabama State at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach.
â–ª Graduate student Ktyal Price set a new school record for blocks in a single match with 12 last weekend versus Alabama State.
â–ª Jasmine Robinson, a senior outside hitter from Fleming Island, Florida, holds a team-leading 136 kills (2.31 per set) and 17 service aces.
â–ª Freshman setter Nola Hemphill has 275 assists, followed closely by senior Alisha Callender with 273 assists.
â–ª Rylee Davis has 141 digs to lead the squad in that category. Callender owns 136 digs from her setter position on the court.
â–ª Niara Hightower is one of the tops in the league with 77 blocks (19 solo). Behind her is Price with 55 blocks.
â–ª Price also leads the team with a .429 hitting percentage.
 
BCU VS. FLORIDA A&M SERIES
â–ª In a series that dates back to 1989, Florida A&M holds a commanding 62-6 all-time advantage between the two sides.
â–ª Bethune-Cookman's last win over the Rattlers came courtesy a 3-1 decision in Tallahassee on Nov. 8, 2019.
â–ª The first win for the Wildcats over FAMU came in 2014, beginning a stretch of three consecutive wins for the Cats over their in-state foe.
â–ª Against FAMU, Head Coach Brittany Williams is 5-12 all-time.
â–ª The Rattlers have won the last seven in the series, respectively.
 
SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
â–ª Florida A&M comes into Wednesday evening's clash with a 12-5 overall record, while sporting a perfect 4-0 mark in league play.
â–ª The Rattlers have swept all but one DSWAC match this year, that being a five-set thriller to Jackson State in Mississippi.
▪ Three different players have amassed 100 or better kills – Brooke Lynn Watts (202), Brookelynn Thomas (165) and Lyonnie Sanford (100).
â–ª The setter for the Rattlers is Alexandra Koleva with 409 assists. Makenzie Taylor has 165 assists as a freshman.
â–ª The team leader in digs is Tinons Galmés with 201, followed by Watts with 120. Jada Rhodes (115), Bryshanna Brown (100) and Koleva (100) also have above 100 digs.
â–ª Kalia Todd has 62 total blocks, while teammate Brookelynn Thomas has 50 blocks.

UP NEXT
While B-CU is scheduled to host Alcorn State at Moore Gymnasium on Sunday, Oct. 13, uncertainty remains as to where the match will officially take place. With Hurricane Milton schedule to make landfall during the early morning hours Thursday, Bethune-Cookman officials will monitor the situation surrounding campus and the health and safety of all involved.
