Wildcats travel to face Virginia Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Bethune-Cookman travels to Charlottesville, Virginia, on Sunday, Nov. 24 when the Wildcats face the Virginia Cavaliers out of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) inside John Paul Jones Arena at 4 p.m.

NEWS & NOTES
Asianae Nicholson, a junior forward transferring in from Alabama A&M, has come off the bench to lead B-CU in scoring with 11.8 points per game, and pulling down 9.2 rebounds per contest.
▪ The Euclid, Ohio, native is shooting 51 percent from the field, adding nine steals and nine assists from her forward position on the court.
▪ Bethune-Cookman is averaging 41.6 points per game in the paint across the first five games of the season.
▪ Against Trinity Baptist, the Wildcats scored a school record 90 points in the paint, giving up just two (2) to the Eagles.
▪ Virginia is the first of two opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) the Wildcats will face on the season, as Bethune-Cookman visits Coral Gables, Florida, to take on Miami (Fla.) on December 8.
▪ Bethune-Cookman has outscored its opposition, 148-6 for points in the paint at home to Fort Lauderdale and Trinity Baptist, respectively.
 
BCU VS. VIRGINIA SERIES
▪ This will be the first-ever meeting between Bethune-Cookman and Virginia in women's basketball.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
▪ Virginia is 24-5 all-time against teams outside the ACC under Head Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton.
▪ Virginia extended its winning streak to three straight with an 85-50 rout of Alabama State in the Cavaliers last game midweek.
▪ Against the Hornets of ASU, Kymora Johnson (22 points) led the Cavaliers offensively shooting 9-for-11 from the field. As a team, the Cavaliers shot almost 50 percent from the field (29-59 FG, 49.2 percent).
▪ The Cavs are in their 52nd season of women's basketball owning an all-time record of 980-550 (.640).
 
RECAPPING B-CU'S LAST GAME (vs. Trinity Baptist)
Six players scored in double figures for Bethune-Cookman Women's Basketball in helping the Wildcats roll past visiting Trinity Baptist, 117-34 at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.
 
Bethune-Cookman scored the first 25 points of the game en route to the Wildcats' second 100-point game at home this season. The Cats led 37-8 after the opening quarter behind a 16-for-24 shooting mark from the field for the Maroon and Gold in the opening period. Due to injury, Trinity Baptist – playing with just six players in the game, answered with two (2) three-pointers in the first quarter behind Ranajala Brown and Laila Harvey.
 
The Cats widened the lead 61-23 at the half with B-CU shooting 60.9 percent from the field overall through the first 20 minutes. Defensively, the Eagles of Trinity Baptist bounced back to shoot 40 percent from the floor in the second quarter with 15 points. In the third quarter, Bethune-Cookman outscored the Eagles, 33-2 limiting the visitors to just one field goal – that coming from Jaedin Houston with 7:02 remaining in the quarter.
 
In the game, the Cats outscored Trinity Baptist, 90-2 for points in the paint. Additionally, the Cats scored 38 fast-break points, while the B-CU bench scored 46 points as compared to the Eagles' four.
 
Brown led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points including four (4) three-pointers.
Bethune-Cookman had six players in double-figures scoring led at the top by Kayla Clark's double-double effort with 21 points and 12 rebounds (seven offensively). Asianae Nicholson had 18 points and a season-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the campaign.
Chanelle McDonald finished the day with 18 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Jordan Brooks turned in 14 points. Janessa Kelley added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. And Daimoni Dorsey scored 12 points and eight rebounds.
