Wildcat Defense Smothers Alabama State in Home Finale

Five Wildcats Score in Double Figures in the Victory.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -  The Wildcats snapped a four-game skid behind a smothering defensive effort as they got the better of Alabama State, 84-43, Monday night at Moore Gymnasium. 
Header How it Happened Bethune-Cookman (15-13, 6-9 SWAC) enjoyed a hot start from the floor in the first, cashing in on five of their first nine shots on the way to a 10-5 lead at the first media timeout. Alabama State (3-23, 3-12 SWAC). Both offenses stalled a bit after the stoppage, but the Wildcats maintained the five-point advantage at the end of the quarter. 

A Daimoni Dorsey bucket on a great transition feed from D'Shantae Edwards put the Cats up, 20-10 midway through the second quater. 

The Wildcats maintained that lead into the half as Kayla Clark's tough paint basket made it 31-20 heading into the break. 

A 9-2 B-CU run out of the half forced a Hornets timeout trailing 39-22. 

The Wildcats defense continued to get the better of Alabama State as the lead further increased to 57-27 after a Kayla White driving layup. 

B-CU doubled up the Hornets offensively at the end of the third thanks to a O'Mariyah Tucker layup to increase the gargantuan lead to 63-31.

The Wildcats put things in cruise control from there, again rattling off a 11-0 run without a Hornets basket on the way to a 74-31 lead.

Chanel Wilson dribbled out the clock as the Wildcats capped off the 84-43 victory. .

  • Five Wildcats finished in double figures, led by 16 from Chanelle McDonald. D'Shantae Edwards and Kayla White had 15 each, while Kayla Clark posted 13 and O'Mariyah Tucker 11.
  • Kayla Clark finished with a 13-13 double-double with four steals, three blocks, and five assists. 
  • B-CU shot  48 percent from the field as a team, but only 2-10 from three.
  • The Wildcats limited the Hornets to just 25 percent from the floor. 
  • B-CU out-rebounded the Hornets, 42-32. 
  • Every Wildcat to play in the contest scored. 
  • The Wildcats turned the ball over only nine times as a team.
