Neither team led by more than three in a first half that saw Bethune-Cookman (10-12, 5-4 SWAC) force four Alabama A&M (5-17, 4-5 SWAC) steals through five minutes of play.
Dhashon Dyson's pull-up jumper put B-CU up, 31-28 before a trip to the free throw line saw Randall make it a 31-30 ballgame heading into halftime.
Darius Osborne's dunk with 11 minutes to play made it 50-46 in favor of the Bulldogs, but a 10-2 B-CU run capped off by a Heady and-one put the Cats up six.
A pair of
Zion Harmon free throws gave B-CU its largest lead of the night at 63-54 with 5:43 to go, but the Bulldogs would not go quietly. a 6-1 run made it a three-point ballgame, and Omari Peek's three-ball pulled AAMU to within 66-65 with two minutes to play.
The two teams traded baskets until Randall's putback with 25 seconds remaining and a B-CU miss on the other end proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs held on for a 72-68 win.
- Jakobi Heady led all scorers with 16 on 6-14 shooting with a rebound, an assist, and a steal.
- Dyson, Harmon, and Carter-Hollinger also scored in double-figures.
- Reggie Ward Jr. and Carter-Hollinger led the contest with six boards each.
- Harmon dished out four assists.
- Ward Jr. grabbed three steals, while James Henderson Jr. blocked three shots.
- The Bulldogs scored 44 points off the bench to B-CU's 16.
The Wildcats return to Moore Gymnasium next weekend as they get set to host Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
