Header How it Happened

Northwestern (3-5, 0-0 Big Ten) opened the contest with a run in the first courtesy of a leadoff double, flyout, and RBI groundout that made it 1-0.

The Wildcats (4-5, 0-0 SWAC) were able to tie the game an inning later as Manny Souffrain's two-out double led to a Peter Vazquez RBI single to make it a 1-1 game. B-CU took the lead an inning later as Daniel Figueroa opened the frame with a single, reached second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Garrett Chun RBI single.

B-CU put two runners on again in the fourth, but could not push a run across.

Northwestern re-took the lead in the top of the sixth after back-to-back RBI doubles and an RBI single to go in front, 3-2.

The WIldcats answered with four of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Jorge Rodriguez led off the inning with a first-pitch homer over the wall in left center to make it 3-3.

B-CU put a runner on as Northwestern turned to its bullpen with one out in the inning. Two straight B-CU singles loaded the bases with one out for Sergio Rivera. He scored Souffrain on a fielders choice before Chun came through again with a two-out double to make it a 7-3 ballgame.

Northwestern immediately returned the favor with four runs of their own off the B-CU bullpen in the seventh. They scored four more runs in the night as B-CU managed just one more hit to hold on for the 11-6 win.
