Wildcats Accept Bid to 2024 College Basketball Invitational

Event Marks Second-Ever Postseason Berth for B-CU Program

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Men's Basketball has accepted a bid to the 2024 Ro College Basketball Invitational (CBI), Athletic Director and Head Coach Reggie Theus announced Sunday.

The event marks the second postseason berth for the Wildcats in program history, and the first since 2011, when B-CU participated in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

The Wildcats, fresh off their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament win in program history and best overall record since the 2017 season,  become one of just 116 NCAA teams fortunate enough to earn a postseason berth.

"This is a great opportunity for our program and our university," Theus said. "To earn a spot in the postseason speaks volumes of the kind of season that we had. Our guys earned this opportunity. The chance to reach the postseason is a huge hurdle as we continue to build our program, and it is one we could not pass up."

In only Theus's third season at the helm, B-CU finished their season with a 17-16 record overall and 11-7 record in conference play before falling to the eventual SWAC Champions, Grambling State, in the conference semifinals in Birmingham, Ala.

"Obviously, the NCAA Tournament is the level we want to be at," Theus continued. "We have made great strides over the last few years, but the goal remains the same. We want to build a team at Bethune-Cookman that can win in the NCAA Tournament."

Two Wildcats took home SWAC Postseason awards following the conclusion of the regular season. Sophomores Zion Harmon and Jakobi Heady were named All-SWAC First Team and Second Team, respectively, for their strong performances during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 2024 Ro CBI will be held March 23-27 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The CBI will feature a 16-team bracket with a single-elimination format. The field will consist of teams not selected or ineligible for the NCAA Tournament.
