JACKSON, Miss.. – In their final match ahead of SWAC Pod #2, the Wildcats dropped a midweek decision to Southern, 4-0 on the campus of Jackson State University
Southern (2-6, 2-1 SWAC) jumped in front, taking the doubles point despite a close contest at the No. 2 spot, as
Jalayah Shaw and Alexxi Bassette took a tough 4-3 loss.
In singles play,
Tuhina Sambhus battled with Southern's Jessica Hess to a 2-5, 1-5 decision.
Keona Burley was retired 0-6, 2-6, whils
Courdeja Clark fell 0-6, 0-6.
At the fourth position, Bassette battled with Jaguar Sahd Habib, 3-4 2-5, but her match went unfinished, as did
Janet Imbo Nloga at No. 1 (1-6, 3-5).
Jalayah Shaw took the lone point win of the afternoon for the Cats, taking a 6-3 win in the first set over Kai Wince, but after a 2-1 start to the second set, Southern clinched the match.
"Today's match showed brief moments of fight, but not enough to really get any momentum on our side," Head coach Chris Wollett said." We started adjusting some strategies in singles in a positive direction, but it was too late witn the clinch-clinch format.
SWAC Pod #2 is up next for B-CU as they face Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, and Grambling State on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively, all hosted on the campus of Jackson State.
