MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Three Alabama State home runs sunk the Wildcats in game two as the Hornets took the series with a 9-4 win, Saturday night in Montgomery.
For the second night in a row, the Wildcats (17-17, 9-4 SWAC) struck first with a pair of runs in the first as
Jose Gonzalez and
Jorge Gonzalez Febo collected RBI.
Alabama State (16-16, 7-6 SWAC) grabbed one back with their first homer of the night off the bat of Juan Cruz in the bottom of the second. An inning later they scored three more via the long ball, this time from Ali Lapread to give the Hornets the lead at 4-2.
In the top of the fourth, B-CU took a run back as
Daniel Figueroa singled home
Manny Souffrain to cut the deficit to one at 4-3.
Back-to-back doubles in the fifth gave the Hornets two more to balloon the lead to 6-3.
The Wildcats plated their final two runs of the night in the top of the sixth via a
Colton Olasin sacrifice fly to make it 6-4.
Alabama State added more insurance in the eighth on a Randy Flores three run homer that made it 9-4.
Marcos Gamboa made the start and dropped to 2-2 on the year after 4.1 innings in which he allowed five runs on five hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Dylan Dudones worked 1.2 innings before
Dale Michaud made his first appearance of the season, working two innings with two strikeouts.
The series finale is set for a 2 p.m. EST start Sunday.
