TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Wildcats led early, but No. 14 Florida State came out with the win, Wednesday night in Tallahassee.
The Wildcats (15-13, 7-1 SWAC) crossed the plate first, jumping on Florida State (24-4, 5-4 ACC) for two runs after
Michael Rodriguez came around to score on a
Franki Febles double down the left field line.
Jack Gidcumb's fielder's choice scored Febles to make it 2-0.
The Seminoles took one back in the bottom of the second after a leadoff triple and double-play.
B-CU stranded two runners in the third before FSU tied things at 2-2 on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. The Cats also stranded runners in the fourth and fifth.
Florida State plated three in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of homers that made it 5-2.
Both bullpens held strong from there as the Seminoles closed out a 5-2 win.
Joel Core made the start for B-CU. In 5.2 innings, he allowed to earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Jeffrey Gonzalez,
Dylan Vega, and
Pablo Torres combined for four scoreless innings in relief, allowing only three combined walks with six strikeouts.
- Making his first start of the season, Michael Rodriguez finished the night 2-4 at the plate with a run scored.
- Franki Febles went 1-3 with a run scoredand an RBI.1
- B-CU stranded nine runners in the game. FSU stranded 7.
SWAC play continues this weekend for B-CU as the Wildcats host Jackson State for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
