Wildcats Fall Away in Series Finale

Souffrain homers, but B-CU bullpens scuffles in loss

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - It was all Tigers Sunday as Jackson State avoided a series sweep with a 19-5 win, Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Header How it Happened

Jackson State (21-10, 6-5 SWAC) put up six runs in the top of the second off B-CU starter Daniel Gaviria on six hits with a pair of B-CU errors. They added two more unanswered in the fourth on a two-run homer that made it 8-0.

The Wildcats (17-14, 9-2 SWAC) broke through for a run in the bottom of the fourth as Manny Souffrain scored on a Jackson State throwing error.

The Tigers added three in the fifth to make it 11-1, but B-CU staved off a seven-inning run rule as Manny Souffrain's towering homer to right cut the deficit to 11-3.

B-CU scored runs in the seventh and eighth but Jackson State posted a run in the eighth and seven in the ninth to erase all doubt as they closed the 19-5 win.

Daniel Gaviria dropped to 3-3 on the year after 3.1 innings in which he allowed eight runs - five earned - on 11 hits with five strikeouts.

Seven Wildcats combined to finish the game out of the bullpen.
