DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - It was all Tigers Sunday as Jackson State avoided a series sweep with a 19-5 win, Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Jackson State (21-10, 6-5 SWAC) put up six runs in the top of the second off B-CU starter
Daniel Gaviria on six hits with a pair of B-CU errors. They added two more unanswered in the fourth on a two-run homer that made it 8-0.Â
The Wildcats (17-14, 9-2 SWAC) broke through for a run in the bottom of the fourth as
Manny Souffrain scored on a Jackson State throwing error.
The Tigers added three in the fifth to make it 11-1, but B-CU staved off a seven-inning run rule as
Manny Souffrain's towering homer to right cut the deficit to 11-3.Â
B-CU scored runs in the seventh and eighth but Jackson State posted a run in the eighth and seven in the ninth to erase all doubt as they closed the 19-5 win.Â
Daniel Gaviria dropped to 3-3 on the year after 3.1 innings in which he allowed eight runs - five earned - on 11 hits with five strikeouts.
Seven Wildcats combined to finish the game out of the bullpen.Â
- Manny Souffrain went 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored, three RBI, and a walk.
- Garrett Chun added an RBI on a 1-3 afternoon with a walk and a run scored.
- 19 runs is the most allowed by B-CU on the season.Â
The Wildcats will look to rebound Tuesday as they head to Tampa to take on USF, Tuesday April 19 at 6 p.m.Â
