JACKSON, Miss - The Wildcats scattered five hits, but were shutout as Jackson State evened up the weekend series with a 5-0 win, Saturday afternoon at Braddy Field.
Bethune-Cookman (28-23, 18-8 SWAC) managed the first hit of the ballgame for either side in the third inning, but could not score.
Jackson State (31-18, 14-12 SWAC) followed suit with a two-run three-hit bottom of the third to put the Tigers in front, 2-0.
B-CU grabbed singular hits in the fourth and fifth, and sixth, loading the bases on a
Jose Gonzalez single,
Manny Souffrain walk, and
Colton Olasin hit-by-pitch, but a strikeout stranded the bases loaded. They stranded two more in the seventh.
The Tigers put things out of reach in the bottom of the seventh on a two-RBI double and sacrifice fly to pad their lead at 5-0.
Marcos Gamboa made the start and took the loss. In 6.1 innings, he allowed five runs - all earned - on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Dylan Vega and
Carlos Jazmin wrapped things up out of the pen with 1.2 scoreless innings
- Manny Souffrain did not record a hit in one official at-bat, but walked three times.
- The Wildcats stranded 12 runners.
The series finale is set for a 2 p.m. EST start Sunday
