Marquez Fires Season-Low Round at PGA WORKS

Wildcats take ninth at annual end-of-year event

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman freshman women's golfer Meeya Marquez turned in a season-low round of 81 Wednesday afternoon as the Wildcats concluded play in this year's PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at TPC Sawgrass on Dye's Valley Course.
 
Bethune-Cookman (334-331-329=994) lowered its scores each day en route to a ninth-place finish in the annual end-of-season event hosted by PGA WORKS.
 
Meeya Marquez, a freshman from Sherman Oaks, California, carded a final round 81 on Wednesday, besting her previous season-low round of 84 set in the first and third rounds, respectively, at the National Women's Collegiate Championship in April. Marquez ended the event tied for 39th on the leaderboard with scores of 86, 87 and 81, respectfully, across her 54-holes of play.
 
BCU senior Kyleigh Leaf turned in the best individual round for the Maroon and Gold during Wednesday's closing round, as the Brownsburg, Indiana, native carded an 8-over 80. She fired a second round 81 during Tuesday's round, allowing her to finish as the low scorer for the Cats in a tournament for the first time this season, as she finished with three round scores of 79, 81 and 80. She ended the tournament 18th overall.
 
Wednesday's round saw junior Katie Robinson chip two strokes from her mirror round scores of 85 across the first 36 holes, as she fired a final round 83. That allowed the American Canyon, California, product to for 37th on the final leaderboard.
 
Matching Robinson in a tie for 37th was BCU graduate student Jenna Werle with a final round 85, a day after the Cocoa, Florida, native scored a team-low 7-over 79 on Tuesday.
 
The final golfer for the Wildcats was sophomore Skylar Kew (84-86-90=260, +44), as the Canadian stroked a 90, finishing 44th on the leaderboard.
 
Kendall Jackson (72-75-73=220, +4) of Howard took the top medalist trophy for the Women's Team Medalist competition, besting Lucie Charbonnier of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a stroke.
 
Meanwhile, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (308-313-299=920, +56) grabbed the team trophy for the tournament.
