PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Women's Golf dropped three decisions in match play as part of The March at the Marsh hosted by Jacksonville University at Marsh Landing Country Club on Monday and Tuesday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Participating in a match-play event for the first time in more than five years, Bethune-Cookman first played against Nova Southeastern on Monday, Sept. 23. The Wildcats would drop the match 4:1.
Ashlie Hobbs won her match against the Sharks' Haruka Muta 4&3. Meanwhile,
Katie Robinson fell to Maria Torres 7&5, while
Skylar Kew was defeated by Mei Chan 6&4.
Kamary Leaf was upended by Ida Lundh 4&2. And it was freshman
Meeya Marquez falling to Ariana Carvalho 6&4.
In the next matchup, two Daytona Beach schools went head-to-head as B-CU took faced off against Embry-Riddle. It would be the Eagles of ERAU claiming a 4:1 win over the Cats.
It would be Robinson grabbing the only win for the Maroon and Gold on the strength of a 5&4 scoreline over Jasmine Yang. Hobbs dropped her match versus Loa Johannsson 3&2, while teammate Kew fell to Savannah Hawthorne 9&8. Leaf would eventually fall to Eden Tsouklaris. Marquez would also lose to Alex Drum 4&3.
In the final match of the event on Tuesday, Sept. 24, Bethune-Cookman was defeated by Seminole State (Fla.) 2.5:1.5.
Robinson, the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) individual champion, halved her match with Kailey Kleinatland. Kew dropped her match with Leonie Krausse 6&5, as did Leaf falling to Abir Taibi 8&6. Marquez was 2UP on Jackie Knight before the match was abandoned. And Jane Huang was 4UP on Hobbs when the decision was gathered.
The Cats get back to action Monday, Sept. 30, when traveling to Toledo, Ohio, for the Rocket Classic. This is the second time in as many years the Cats have participated in the event hosted by the Toledo Rockets.
