MANHATTAN, Kan. – Fresh off a strong performance in Elkhorn, B-CU golf will quickly pivot to competition at the Powercat Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas. Hosted by Kansas State, the two-day event will take place at Colbert Hills Golf Course, with round one set to begin Monday morning.

Bethune-Cookman women's golf wrapped up play at the Indian Creek Golf Club on Tuesday, finishing fourth out of five teams at the event. The Wildcats opened the tournament with an excellent 310, marking the program's lowest team score in the tenure of head coach Harry Stokes, surpassing the previous best at the 2024 SWAC Championships.

Lathika Krishna once again led the way for the Wildcats, shooting a 229 (75-79-75) across three rounds to finish fifth overall. Her eight birdies tied for the fourth-most in the field.

Making her second career start for B-CU, Vivian Luu recorded her first top-15 finish. The junior transfer carded a 234 (76-77-81) and matched Krishna with eight birdies, while also recording 28 pars.

Hannah Butzer finished 22nd overall after shooting an 80 in each of the first two rounds before closing with an 83. Mia Bernier finished just behind her in 26th, posting a 247 (84-82-81).

Lana Bowen and Sanai Lambert rounded out the Wildcats' lineup. Bowen opened with a 79 and finished 29th overall, while Lambert recorded a 257 (86-81-90).

 

This will be the Wildcats' third straight appearance in Manhattan, having finished 16th overall the previous two years. Krishna, Bowen, and Bernier were in the lineup last season for B-CU. 

Designed by eight-time PGA Tour winner Jim Colbert along with architect Jeff Brauer, Colbert Hills is the highest-ranked public course in state and ranked in the Top 10 Best in Kansas by Golf Digest. Colbert, a decorated collegiate golfer who finished runner-up at NCAAs during his time at Kansas State, included a fun element as an homage to his alma mater on the fifth hole, with a bunker complex in the shape of a wildcat paw print (in honor of the school's mascot).

Colbert Hills is a challenging yet playable layout with strategic hazards but generous fairways and large putting surfaces, which average over 7,000 square feet. The rolling terrain offers terrific views of the beautiful Flint Hills region framed by native prairie tallgrass.

In addition to being home of the Kansas State men's and women's golf teams, it also houses the First Tee of Manhattan, including the Earl Woods National Youth Golf Academy, named for Tiger's father who was born in Manhattan, played baseball at K-State and was the first Black baseball player in the Big Seven conference (now the Big 12).

The par-72 course plays at 6,446 yards on the first two rounds of the two-day event, while dropping down to 6,342 for the final round on Tuesday. 

The tournament field, which features a variety of power four and mid major schools, includes Cincinnati, South Dakota State, Loyola Chicago, Kennesaw State, Monmouth, Creighton, Tarleton State, Central Arkansas, Incarnate Word, and Kansas State. Missouri-St. Louis of Division II will also compete at the event.
