No. 24 Florida State Overpowers Cats, 4-0

Match played with only singles results

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 24th-ranked Florida State Seminoles captured four singles points early Saturday evening to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 4-0 in women's tennis action at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The match began with singles competition, as FSU played UCF earlier in the day, and concluded without doubles play as the match result was already secured.

Florida State (3-1) used Tina Li, Maelie Monfils, Cade Cricchio and Kristyna Lavickova to secure singles wins.
 
Bethune-Cookman (0-2) fielded both newcomers Zahara El-Zein and Lesa Snipes-Williams in the match, while returning letterwinners Jalayah Shaw, Allexii Bassette and Keona Burley worked as the veterans for Head Coach Chris Wollett.
 
The Noles began 1-0 with a win at the No. 6 spot.
 
The Seminoles' Li then defeated Bassette 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 position, while Monfils was able to take down Burley 6-0, 6-1 on court No. 4. Cricchio worked past B-CU's Snipes-Williams 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot, rounding out the registered matches on the day.
 
At the No. 2 position for the Wildcats, El-Zein had chances to take the opening set from FSU's Mary Boyce Deatherage, before eventually losing the opener, 5-7. Shaw was leading her second set 2-1 on court one, after dropping the opener to Juliana Parra Romero, 0-6. Both matches went unfinished for the Cats.
 
The Wildcats next match is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1, when they take on Edward Waters at the USTA National Campus beginning at 1 p.m.
