Amya Jennings continues strong stretch for Wildcats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman wins its fifth straight off another impressive performance from sophomore outside hitter Amya Jennings as the Cats took down Texas Southern, 3-1, Friday night at Moore Gymnasium

Header How it Happened

Bethune-Cookman took advantage of seven Texas Southern errors in the first set, moving in front 12-9 off the serve of Jennings. Texas Southern pulled within 16-15 until two Jennings kills and three Tiger errors allowed the Cats to begin to pull away for an eventual 25-19 set win.

The Wildcats showed some signs of struggle in the second, hitting just .095 with eight team errors. After a 4-1 start to the set, Texas Southern moved in front 11-8 before back-to-back Jennings kills tied things at 11.

After the Cats tied the game again at 14-14 on a Tiyanna Preston kill, the Tigers capitalized on three B-CU errors to go up 20-14. B-CU rallied for four straight to come within 23-20, but Texas Southern held on to tie the game at 1-1.

Both sides hit nearly .400 in a close third set. The Wildcats withstood a late Tigers' run to take the set 25-20.

B-CU settled in in the fourth, scoring seven of the first nine thanks to three Preston kills. The Tigers slowly crept back into the set, but Sthefany Carvalho's serve saw B-CU shut the door with six straight to take the frame 25-18 for the match.
