BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Graduate Transfer
Alexandria Johnson has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly honor of her career and first for Wildcats women's basketball this season.
Johnson, a transfer who formerly competed for Queens and Tuskegee, has made an immediate impact for the Wildcats this season, delivering two strong scoring performances against Albany State and FIU. She opened the week with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting and three assists in the Wildcats' home-opening win over the Golden Rams. Johnson followed with a standout effort at FIU, leading the team with 23 points on 6-of-16 shooting while hitting 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Johnson added four rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 39 hard-fought minutes against the Panthers.
The Wildcats will return to action tomorrow night on the road against #6 Maryland. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. EST.
