B-CU Plays Ospreys to Begin UNF Classic

JACKSONVILLE - Bethune-Cookman returns to game action after a two-week hiatus as they are set to participate in the UNF Classic. The Wildcats will play the host North Florida Ospreys on Friday in the second game of the event. The contest will begin at 1:30 EST from UNF Arena.

1st Quarter

Turnovers continued to be an issue during the opening period for Bethune-Cookman (1-4) as Maryland (6-0) was able to build a substantial advantage early on. The Wildcats committed 11 turnovers which the Terrapins consistently turn into points on the other end.

Maryland was also dominant on the glass, outrebounding B-CU 12-6 while collecting five on the offensive end. They finished the quarter with 11 more shot attempts than the Wildcats en route to a 24-5 lead.

2nd Quarter
The Wildcats were able to take better care of the basketball in the second quarter, but they struggled to contain an ascendant Maryland offense. The Terrapins made nine of their 13 shot attempts which added up to another 20 point quarter.

B-CU shot 5-15 for the second quarter. Madison Holden led the way for the Wildcats with six points during the period.

Maryland finished the half with a 46-16 lead.

3rd Quarter
The Terrapins continued their tremendous offensive output, scoring 29 points on 10-17 shooting.

B-CU made two three-pointers in the quarter, but shot just 6-17 overall with eight turnovers.

4th Quarter
Maryland capped off their dominant effort with another 20-point quarter on 8-12 shooting.

The Wildcats hit two more three-pointers in the quarter as they look to build momentum from behind-the-arc.
 
Scouting the Opponent In-Story Header
UNF has gotten off to a 1-4 start this season, including losses in their last three games. They are coming off a loss on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs.

This will be the second home game of the year for the Ospreys. Their first was a narrow three-point win over Palm Beach Atlantic (DII).

The leading scorer for UNF is junior Alonya Waldon. The Samford transfer is averaging 10.2 points per game, which leads the team despite being only fifth in shot attempts. She is the only player averaging double-figures.

The Ospreys have struggled to score efficiently, shooting just 36.8% from the field and 22.6% from beyond the arc.

Friday will mark the 17th meeting between Bethune-Cookman and North Florida. The Wildcats hold the slight edge in the series at 9-7 but have lost the last two in a row,
