JACKSONVILLE - Bethune-Cookman was able to close the gap after a slow start but couldn't quite get the job done as they fell to North Florida 61-57.
1st Quarter
Bethune-Cookman (1-5) started off slow as North Florida (2-4) was able to take an early lead that they would never relinquish.
The Wildcats shot just 25.3% in the first quarter, but was able to remain in striking distance, down just 16-9 going into the second.
2nd Quarter
UNF's Alonya Waldon made a layup with 7:48 left to give the Ospreys a double-digit lead, but the Wildcats were able to put up a strong offensive quarter the rest of the way to cut into the deficit.
Alexandria Johnson made a three-pointer at the end of the half to make it a four-point game going into halftime. As a team, B-CU shot 50% from the field, made both of their three-point attempts, and hit five of their six free-throw attempts in the second period.
3rd Quarter
B-CU struggled shooting the ball in the third quarter, but still managed to hang around. The Wildcats went 5-for-16 in the frame, but thanks to strong rebounding, had four more shot attempts than the Ospreys.
North Florida slightly increased their lead overall, heading into the fourth up 47-40.
4th Quarter
A layup by
Tyler Butler got the Wildcats back within five at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Though the Ospreys fought to maintain the lead and eventually increased it back to ten.
Even down ten with just two minutes to go, B-CU fought until the final whistle as they were able to close the gap to three following a Jordyn Brooks layup. The Wildcats then forced a UNF turnover with :28 seconds left with a chance to tie the game.
Sanai Tyler was able to secure the rebounding following a miss by Jordyn Brooks, but UNF was able to force a turnover and secure the victory.
- Bethune-Cookman was led in scoring by Alexandria Johnson and Chanelle McDonald, who each had 12.
- McDonald narrowly missed a double-double, collecting nine rebounds to lead the team.
- The Wildcats forced 20 UNF turnovers, using 11 steals to disrupt the Ospreys' offense.
- UNF shot 7-for-26 from three-point range.
- B-CU shot 36.1% from the field in the game.

The UNF classic continues as the Wildcats will turn their attention to North Dakota State tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
