Cats Fall at Miami

Coral Gables, Fla.- Led by Kyle Ra Shaya's 19 points, the Miami Hurricanes were able to pull away from the Wildcats in the second half and secure a 74-41 win in Wetsco Arena. The loss drops Bethune-Cookman to 0-2 on the season with both losses coming on the road.

Header How it Happened
1st Quarter

The Wildcats once again got off to a slow start offensively, missing their first four field-goal attempts and committing two turnovers during the stretch. Miami was able to take advantage and build an early 6-0 lead.

B-CU was able to get on a board thanks to a putback by senior Daimoni Dorsey. The Wildcats would then endure an 0/7 shooting stretch which included two turnovers.

Defensively, the Cats were able to hold Miami to eight points through almost seven minutes of game action. The Hurricanes began to heat up at the end of the quarter, scoring 11 points during the final three minutes.

Overall, Bethune-Cookman shot 23.5% for the quarter, while the Hurricanes converted on 50% of their attempts to construct a 19-9 lead.

2nd Quarter
The Wildcats would have more success during the second period, shooting 43.8% during the frame.

Junior Madison Holden led the way for the road team as she scored seven of the Cats 15 points, including a made three-pointer.

B-CU held Miami to 37.5% shooting while cutting their lead to nine going into halftime.

3rd Quarter
The third quarter was very similar to the first, with B-CU again struggling to create consistent offense. The Hurricanes began the period on an 11-5 run 

Miami dominated the glass, outrebounding the WIldcats 14-5, including four on the offensive side. 

An and-one layup by Miami's Soma Okolo gave the Canes a 21-point advantage with 1:47 remaining. The Wildcats would score the final four points of the quarter as they looked to build some momentum going into the fourth.

4th Quarter
The final frame was one-sided, with the Hurricanes overwhelming the B-CU offense. Miami went on a 12-0 run to begin the period, effectively putting the game out of reach.

The Wildcats were held to just 2/16 from the field, including misses on their final seven field goal attempts

Miami found success at getting to the free-throw line, as they attempted 11 free-throws in the fourth quarter alone, converting on nine of those attempts.

 
Notes & Stats In-Story Header
The Wildcats did not have a player reach double-figures in scoring for the second-consecutive game to start the season. Madison Holden led the team with nine points in 17 minutes of action. 

Kyle Ra Shaya achieved a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Natalie Wetzel and Ahnay Adams also scored in double figures with 11 points and 10 points respectively.

The Hurricanes attempted 22 free-throws compared to six for the Wildcats. Miami outscored B-CU in the paint 36-16.
