Wildcats Survive for #HoopsHOCO Win

B-CU improves to perfect 4-0 at home on the season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wildcats improve to a perfect 4-0 at Moore Gymnasium after narrowly escaping with a 67-64 win over Alabama State, Saturday night at B-CU's 2025 Hoops Homecoming.
Header How it Happened

FIRST HALF
Buckets from Trey Thomas and Daniel Rouzan got Bethune-Cookman (8-13, 4-4 SWAC) started Saturday night, as they led, 10-6, through six minutes of play

Alabama State (8-13, 5-3 SWAC) tied things at 12-12 on a Jasteven Walker jumper.

David Onanina provided a boost in the paint for an understaffed Wildcats team missing Gianni Hunt, Brayon Freeman, and Reggie Ward Jr., collecting six quick first half points to put B-CU in front 28-20 with eight until half.

Alabama State scored the next eight points over the next three minute to tie it at 28-28.

After two scoreless minutes for both teams, B-CU scored five of the final six points to head into the half up 33-29.

 SECOND HALF

The Wildcats started the second half strong, racing out to a 11-0 run after the break to push the lead to 42-29.

The Hornets chipped away to cut the lead all the way down to one at 48-47 after a 14-5 run of their own.

Alabama State took its first lead of the second half on a three pointer by Shawn Fulcher. The Hornets pushed that lead up to as much as six as CJ Hines scored eight straight for Alabama State to make it 60-54.

Rouzan and Thomas traded baskets for B-CU to re-take the lead at 61-60 with two mintutes to play, but free throws by Hines made it a Hornets lead once again.

That would be Alabama State's final lead of the ballgame as Kalil Camara tied it at 62 with a free throw, and a missed Thomas three turned into a Daniel Rouzan tip-in to put B-CU up by two with 30 seconds to play.

Missed free throws by both teams kept things close, but Thomas and Rouzan were able to keep the Cats in front from the line as Alabama State missed a late Hines layup attempt, and the Wildcats held on, 67-64.
