DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wildcats improve to a perfect 5-0 at Moore Gymnasium in 2024-25 with an 89-75 win over Alabama A&M Monday night.
For the first time in the season, five players scored in double figures in the win.
FIRST HALF
Bethune-Cookman (9-13, 6-3 SWAC) fell behind, 12-6 in the early goings before
Jesus Carralero Martin capped 7-0 Wildcats run to take their first lead of the night at 13-12 through six minutes of play.
Alabama A&M (7-15, 3-6 SWAC) saw its offense stall as the B-CU run reached 13-2 to go up 19-14 after back-to-back
David Onanina buckets.
Onanina continued his first-half dominance, scoring in the opening frame as B-CU went up, 26-24 on a pair of free throws for the EKU transfer.
The Bulldogs moved in front by five on back-to-back three pointers with just a minute left in the half before Carralero Martin answered with a pair of jumpers to tie things up again.
The Bulldogs threatened to head to the half up three on a Chad Moodie jumper, but
Kalil Camara drained a buzzer beating triple to knot things up at 41-41.
SECOND HALF
B-CU exploded out of the half, scoring the first 12 points and holding AAMU to nearly six scoreless minutes as the Cats moved in front, 53-41.
The Bulldogs jumped right back in it with an 11-4 run to move back to within three points at 63-60, but Carralero Martin stopped the bleeding with another three to push the lead back up to seven.
B-CU's lead reached 12 on a Thomas and-one on the fast break, and would grow as hight as 15 on two
Seneca Willoughby free throws as they cruised to the 89-75 win.
- B-CU scored 38 points in the paint to 26 for AAMU.
- The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor as a team (31-62) despite a 5-21 clip from three.
- Trey Thomas led all scorers with 24 points, nearly missing a double-double with nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
- Jesus Carrralero Martin was next with a double-double on 17 points on 7-9 shooting with three threes, 11 rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
- Daniel Rouzan, Kalil Camara, and David Onanina were next with 16, 15, and 14 points respectively.
- Seneca Willoughby recorded a career-high 12 assists.
B-CU heads back out on the road for a crucial Texas swing beginnign with Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Feb. 8. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on SWAC Digital Network.
