DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Five double-digit scorers saw Jackson State defeat the Wildcats, 84-71, to sweep the season series Monday night at Moore Gymnasium.
FIRST HALF
Early offensive struggles saw the Wildcats (11-15, 8-5 SWAC) manage only two baskets in a fast-paced first four minutes of play, while Jackson State (9-17, 9-4 SWAC) moved in front, 10-5.
The JSU lead reached 20-11 before a
Daniel Rouzan and-one stopped the run for the Wildcats.
Jackson State continued their strong start offensively, jumping in front 27-16 on a short Shannon Grant jumper. Two mintues later, Dorian McMillian's three made ti a 14-point Tiger advantage with under ten until the half.
A 10-1 Wildcat run brought the deficit down to just two as
Kalil Camara's breakaway dunk put an exclamation point on a furious B-CU rally.
A Jackson State jumper and a pair of late free throws kept the Tigers up, 41-35 at the half.
SECOND HALF
Seven straight points from
Trey Thomas in the second half saw B-CU maintain their position down just five at 53-48 with 13 minutes to play, but JSU kept pace and moved back up double-digits on another tough bucket in the paint.
Jackson State's lead reached a second-half high of 65-53 on a Tiger and-one before a 9-2 B-CU run trimmed it back down to five. The run grew to 13-4 as Jackson State was left clinging to a 69-6a6 lead with four minutes to play.
Unfortunately for B-CU, the Wildcats managed only five points in the final four minutes as the Tigers capped off an 84-71 win.
- Daniel Rouzan scored a game-high 20 points on 6-11 shooting with six rebou nds, an assist, and a block.
- Trey Thomas added 19 points with six assists.
- Seneca Willoughby and Jesus Carralero Martin each dished out five assists.
- B-CU made 11-13 free throws - JSU made 19 of 27.
- Jackson State scored 44 points in the paint.
- Following the loss, the Wildcats move to 8-5 in SWAC play, placing them in a tie for fifth in the league standings.
Another SWAC road trip is up next for B-CU, with the Cats set to head to Alabama to take on Alabama A&M and Alabama State, beginning with the Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
