MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the home stretch of the conference season, the Wildcats grabbed their tenth SWAC win with a 70-68 win, Monday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
FIRST HALF
The Wildcats (13-15, 10-5 SWAC) started strong again as a
Jesus Carralero Martin block and three pointer made it a 10-4 lead through the first seven minutes of play.
Alabama State (13-15, 9-6 SWAC) found an offensive footing, moving to within one point at 19-18 on a TJ Madlock three just past the 10-minute mark of the first half.Â
B-CU quickly rebounded with a 9-2 run to make it a 29-20 game with five to play in the half.Â
An immediate 11-2 Alabama State run tied things up at 31-31 with just a minute until the half. A B-CU turnover led to another Madlock jumper that put the Hornets in front, 33-31 as the two teams headed to the locker room.
SECOND HALF
Seven straight B-CU points out of the half put the Cats back on top, 37-33. That lead grew to eight as a
Daniel Rouzan jumpshot made it 47-39 with 14 minutes to play.
The Hornets tied things again with nine to play after a 10-2 run, as Tyler Mack's steal and score knotted things at 49-49.Â
The two teams traded buckets for over five minutes, with the Hornets leading by as many as four with under five remaining.Â
Six straight points for Thomas made it a four-point Cat lead with 90 seconds left.Â
The Hornets had a chance to go ahead with two seconds remaining, but the Wildcats were credited with the board, and
Trey Thomas put things away at the free throw line as B-CU held on, 70-68.
- The Wildcats have won double-digit conference games in back-to-back seasons. With three games remaining, they have a chance to surpass their 11-7 record a season ago - their best finish as members of the SWAC.
- Trey Thomas led the way with 23 points. his 22nd double-digit scoring effort of the season and eighth game with 20+
- Kalil Camara was the only other Wildcat with double-figures - he scored 10.
- Daniel Rouzan and Reggie Ward Jr. grabbed eight boards apiece.Â
- B-CU out-rebounded the Hornets 42-27.Â
- Alabama State scored 27 points off B-CU turnovers and 21 points on the fast break.Â
Only three games remain for B-CU on the 2025 regular season, beginning with a Saturday game against Southern. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on March 1.Â
