DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. -  Zahara El-Zein and Edwin Sanchez of B-CU Tennis & B-CU Track & Field have been named Wildcats of the Week for the week of March 10 - March 16, 2025.

Edwin Sanchez was a force in a run-rule win Sunday over Alcorn State to cap off a three-game sweep to open SWAC play for B-CU. In just five innings, he scattered six hits, striking out a career-high 13 batters, the most by any Wildcat arm this season and the most by any SWAC pitcher on the year. He did so on only 96 pitches. It is the most strikeouts in a game for a Wildcat since Nolan Santos struck out 13 at Mississippi Valley State on April 14, 2023. He did so in seven innings to Sanchez's five. 

Zahara El-Zein, a 5-foot-5 freshman from Harare, Zimbabwe, was responsible for Bethune-Cookman Women's Tennis collecting a point midweek in a home nonconference match to Northern Kentucky, with the Maroon and Gold falling on the day, 6-1. For El-Zein, she stepped past Northern Kentucky's Ana Isabela Serrano at No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-2), allowing her to post her team-leading third singles win of the 2025 spring campaign. The victory was also her second in the last three outings, with her previous match ending unfinished versus Prairie View A&M in the first SWAC Pod of the year hosted by Jackson State, as the match result was already produced by the Panthers, respectfully. 

Each week, The Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications recognizes one male and one female student-athlete through the Wildcats of the Week award.
