Header How it Happened

Due to impending weather, the match began with singles competition, and doubles was not needed before the match result was confirmed by the Wildcats.

Bethune-Cookman (2-12, 1-5 SWAC) was clinical throughout singles play.

Freshman Zahara El-Zein set the tone at No. 2 singles with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nina Schiks of Mississippi Valley State (0-10, 0-8 SWAC). Allexii Bassette matched that performance on court three, also securing a 6-0, 6-0 win against Brooke Edyvane.

Keona Burley continued the Wildcats' perfect streak at the No. 4 spot, defeating Valerie Greer in straight sets on scores of 6-0, 6-0. Lesa Snipes-Williams nearly added another perfect scoreline at No. 5 singles, besting Malefo Kgotlelelo 6-0, 6-1 in the final completed match of the day.

Two matches went unfinished as Bethune-Cookman had already secured the team victory. At No. 1 singles, B-CU sophomore Jalayah Shaw was leading Mississippi Valley State's Tanaka Garakai 6-0, 2-0 when play was halted. Similarly, the No. 6 singles match between the Wildcats' Anne Cerne and Delta Devilettes' Tori Carter stood at 6-3, 0-3 when the contest was called.

B-CU wraps up the second pod event of the year Sunday when facing off against Grambling State at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT) at The Fields at 17 Springs in Millbrook, Alabama.
