JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman took a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning, but a walk-off double was the difference as Jacksonville downed the Wildcats, 6-5, Monday night at John Sessions Stadium.
Bethune-Cookman (24-17) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third as
Darryl Lee homered for the eighth time in 2025, driving in
Daniel Figueroa.
Jacksonville (23-16) took one back in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with one out for a RBI groundout that made it 2-1.
The Wildcats lead reached 3-1 on
Jeter Polledo drove home
Jose Fernandez to make it 3-1, B-CU.
The Dolphins put three runs up in the seventh as B-CU turned to
Jean Carlos Zambrano out of the bullpen. After a single and wild pitch, The Dolphins made it 3-2 on a RBI fielder's choice. Another RBI single a batter later tied things at 3-3.
Jacksonville took a 4-3 lead in the eighth after putting runners on first and third with two outs, resulting in another RBI single that gave JU its first lead of the night.
B-CU tied things up in the top of the ninth as
Jorge Gonzalez Febo walked and came around to score on a Fernandez RBI double. Polledo drove in the go-ahead run, scoring pinch hitter
Jayme Villafane to make it 5-4.
Jacksonville rallied again in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs on a dropped third strike, walk, and intentional walk. The Dolphins walked off the Wildcats with an RBI double to center to give them the 6-5 win.
Pablo Torres made the start, throwing 55 pitches over four innings in which he allowed one earned run on one hit with two walks and four strikeouts.
Yoansell Diaz was saddled with the loss.
B-CU will host its final home midweek contest on Wednesday, April 23 as B-CU welcomes in USF. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
