BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Bethune-Cookman second baseman
Jesus Vanegas and Sunday starting pitcher
Edwin Sanchez have secured Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, it was announced Tuesday from the conference headquarters in Birmingham, Ala.
Jesus Vanegas finished another strong weekend at the plate with four hits, four runs scored, a homer, a double, and six RBI in wins over USF and UAPB.
Edwin Sanchez proved invaluable as a stopper as he turned in seven strong innings of scoreless ball to lead the Wildcats to a 9-0 win over UAPB in the series finale Sunday. He allowed only three baserunners and struck out four to earn his team-leading seventh win of the season.
This marks the fifteenth and sixteenth weekly honors of the season B-CU baseball, and the third of the year for Vanegas, who was last named Hitter of the Week on April 4. It is the fourth honor of the season for Sanchez, who was last named Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week on March 20.
The Cats will host SWAC's No. 2 seed Alabama State this weekend for the final weekend at Jackie Robinson Ballpark beginning Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
