Andrey Martinez has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week and starting pitcher
Edwin Sanchez has been named both Pitcher of the Week and Newcomer of the Week it was announced Tuesday from the conference headquarters in Birmingham, Ala.
Andrey Martinez led the way at the plate as the Wildcats took both games over Grambling State on the road. In two games he finished 4-9 with six RBI, three runs, and a pair of homers in Saturday's game. He also scored three runs as the Wildcats inched closer to their first regular season title in SWAC history.
Edwin Sanchez continued to make his case as SWAC Pitcher of the Year as he fired five scoreless innings against Grambling State in which he scattered six hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks allowed. It is his second douuble-digits strikeout game of the season.
This marks the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth weekly honors of the season B-CU baseball, and the fourth of the year for Martinez, who was last named Hitter and Newcomer of the Week on April 8. It is the fifth and sixth honors of the season for Sanchez, who was last named Pitcher of the Week on April 29.
The Cats will host Texas Southern this weekend at Sanford Memorial Stadium. A series win secures the SWAC regular season crown for B-CU.
