Game Recap: Football |

Bethune-Cookman Falls 61-23

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Golden Lions got off to a hot start and never looked back, defeating Bethune-Cookman 63-21 at Simmons Bank Field.

UAPB continuously capitalized on B-CU mistakes, which included a season-high five interceptions, to build a massive lead that the Wildcats were unable to overcome.

Header How it Happened

Arkansas - Pine Bluff (5-3, 3-2) could not ask for a better start, as Jalyen Jennings scored an 87-yard rushing touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Bethune-Cookman (5-4, 3-2) gave the ball back to the Golden Lions immediately on its opening drive, as a desperation toss by Joel Morris landed in the arms of Jai'Teryias Johnson for an interception.

UAPB would score again two plays later as Jaylen Jennings scored from one-yard out to make it 14-0 at the 14:33 mark in the first.

Things would continue to spiral for Bethune-Cookman, as Morris would make another big mistake. His pass to the sideline was intercepted by Camare Jackson and taken 37 yards to the house. The lead was increased to 21-0 with13:08 remaining in the quarter.

After Pine Bluff took a 28-0 lead on a seven-yard pass to Demetric Whitlock Jr., the Wildcats would throw their second pick six of the afternoon. Isaac Gallagher-Cheetham could not handle the snap on a field-goal attempt, and forced a throw that was snagged by Du'Wayne Paulhill. He brought it back 79 yards for the score and the route was on from there.

B-CU would finally get on the board with 1:10 left in the third quarter. Cordan Patterson threw his first Wildcat touchdown to Myles Morales to make it 56-7.

Patterson and Deanwar Johnson would both add rushing touchdowns later in the game, with the final score being 63-21.
