MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Led by strong performances by
Alaya Rhodes and
Moriah Johnson, the Wildcats defeated the Hornets 3-0 at Lockhart Gymnasium.
The first set was back-and-forth until the very end, when Bethune-Cookman (12-10, 8-4) came up with the run they needed to clinch the victory.
An attack error by Alaya Rhodes made it 20-19 in favor of Alabama State (6-19. 4-8). But the Wildcats would score six of the next seven points, getting kills from four different players to win 25-21.
The second set was more of the same, as neither team was able to gain much separation on the scoreboard.
The Hornets had a chance to win the set, going up 24-23 after a kill from Amaya Robinson. Once again though, it was Bethune-Cookman who came up with three straight points to snatch the victory.
Set three saw both teams go on multiple short scoring bursts, but no one could sustain a lead. Alabama State put themselves in position to win again, with a 23-21 lead.
But for the third time, B-CU had answers when they needed them the most. Rhodes along with Kylynn White and Moriah Johnson picked up kills as part of 5-1 scoring run to finish out the sweep.

- Alaya Rhodes led the Wildcats with 13 kills.
- Moriah Johnson finished with 11 kills and a team-high nine digs.
- Kaleigh Williams recorded six blocks (two solo, four assists), a new season-high.
- Kamrynn Clay had 33 assists for the Hornets.
The Wildcats will head to Texas for games against Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. The trip begins against the Panthers Friday, beginning at 7 p.m.
