DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Bradley Braves overcame a two-run deficit in the final two innings to beat Bethune-Cookman 7-6 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Bradley (1-2) got the scoring started in this one, as Hayden Miller hit a solo home run to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
After a couple scoreless innings, the Wildcats (2-1) got their first run in the third inning off a sacrifice fly by Jorge Rodriguez.
The Braves responded with a big fourth inning, scoring three runs to retake the lead. Two of the runs scored on an error by B-CU.
The Wildcats immediately matched Bradley with three runs of their own. Jose Fernandez hit a two-run homer for his first of the season while Erick Almonte cashed in with an RBI single.
B-CU would take its first lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Jeter Polledo.
Despite have two runners in scoring position in the seventh, the Braves could not score. In the bottom of the inning, Jose Fernandez came up with a big RBI double to increase the Wildcat lead to two.
In the eighth inning, Bradley would rally to tie the game at six. The Braves once again took advantage of a B-CU error as both of the runs were unearned.
The Wildcats had second and third with no outs in the eight, but a strikeout and a double play ended the threat.
In the ninth, the Braves took the lead after a double, a single, and a fielder's choice brought the go-ahead runner home. B-CU had a chance to answer in the bottom of the frame but were set down 1-2-3.
- Bethune-Cookman allowed five unearned runs and totaled four errors in the game.
- Darryl Lee, Jose Fernandez, and Sergio Rivera each recorded multi-hit games.
- Wildcat pitching accounted for seven walks.
Bethune-Cookman plays a midweek Tuesday game against FIU, beginning at 6 p.m.
