MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman battled point-for-point throughout the afternoon, but Jackson State ultimately pulled away late to secure a 4-0 win at Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center that was far closer than the final score suggests.
Jackson State (7-9, 4-0) and Bethune-Cookman (2-10, 0-5) went back-and-forth in doubles play. The Wildcats top duo
Rosalida Asumwa and
Maria Romero Vargas grabbed a 6-3 victory over the Tigers' top unit.
JSU ultimately prevailed and took the doubles point with victories from its number two and three duos.
In singles, the Tigers collected wins at the one, three, and five spots to close out the match victory. Asumwa and
Jalayah Shaw took the first set of their duels before the match had reached its conclusion.
