Jags' Big Seventh Inning Seals Game One Win Over B-CU

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Jaguars totaled seven runs on eleven hits while holding B-CU's offense in check en route to a 7-3 victory at Lee-Hines Stadium.

Header How it Happened

After a scoreless first inning, Bethune-Cookman (20-10, 8-2) got on the scoreboard first in the second. Following back-to-back hits from Jorge Rodriguez and Michael Rodriguez, the Wildcats grabbed a run on a Sergio Rivera sac fly to grab a 1-0 lead.

Southern (11-17, 5-4) would quickly respond in the bottom of the frame. After a B-CU error extended the inning for the Jaguars, Kenyon Hughes and Beny Bikar Jr. used RBI extra base hits to take a 3-1 advantage.

The offense would then slow down for both teams until the fifth inning. Christopher Watson hit a single to lead off the inning before eventually scoring from third to cut the deficit to one.

Southern was clinging to the narrow lead until they added insurance in the form of a four-run seventh inning. The Jags recorded two walks and three hits, including RBI knocks by Jaylon Lucky and Xavier Bradley to push the lead to 7-2.

The five run deficit proved too much for the Wildcats to overcome. Watson picked up an RBI base hit in the ninth, but Southern prevailed 7-3.

Bobby Spencer put together a strong outing for the Jaguars. He went seven innings allowing just two earned runs and managing eight strikeouts.

Harbersting Abreu took the loss for B-CU despite allowing just three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.
