Track & Field Duo Earns Weekly Award Recognition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bethune-Cookman track & field athletes Andrew Kiplagat and Michael Carter earned Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly honors following standout performances at the East Coast Relays hosted by the University of North Florida.

Kiplagat was named SWAC Track Athlete of the Week, while Carter earned SWAC Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the SWAC from its headquarters in Birmingham.

Kiplagat capped off a historic regular season in the Maroon and Gold with another program-record performance, this time in the men's 5000 meter run. Competing at the East Coast Relays, the distance standout crossed the line in a school-record time of 14:22.20 to claim a first-place finish in the event.

Carter also delivered a first-place performance for the Wildcats, winning the men's long jump with a mark of 7.77 meters to lead the field and secure the conference weekly honor.

The Wildcats have now received five weekly awards in total during the outdoor season.

The pair continued a strong outdoor campaign for Bethune-Cookman as the Wildcats prepare for postseason competition this weekend in Baton Rouge.
