BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – B-CU outside hitter Moriah Johnson has been named the SWAC Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

The award is the first for the sophomore and the first for the Wildcats as a team this season.

Moriah Johnson had an outstanding first weekend as the Wildcats took on Radford, East Carolina, and Hampton in the Pirate Invitational. She earned All-Tournament honors after three games in which she totaled 43 kills on a .255 attack percentage. Johnson also added 25 digs and three service aces.

She was particularly efficient against Hampton, totaling 18 kills on 32 attack attempts good for a .469 attack percentage. She also collected 10 kills in the game to earn a double-double.

Bethune-Cookman returns to action this Friday as they take on the Stetson Hatters at Moore Gymnasium. The home-opener begins at 6 p.m. EST.
